Redecentralize Conference!

Redecentralize Conference!

From:
Ira
Date:

 Hello,

Really excited to say I’ve decided to organise a redecentralize conference
THIS YEAR! Currently thinking October time.

It will be a place to bring interested people together, showcase what’s
been happening with various projects, discover new ones and understand the
evolving conversation about the possibilities and concerns of
decentralization.

My hope is to get a group of people who can meet every couple of weeks
online to plan and move this forward. Thoughts, ideas, suggestions or
volunteers welcome!

Very cool! If you do it anywhere near Berlin, I'll try and help out ;-)

Thank you everyone who's responded and contacted me! I've started a
planning doc here: http://piratepad.nl/rdc

Next steps are to finalise what it is and logistics. My aim is to explore
projects that are or can become big enough to change the status quo. Figure
out what it will take to get decentralized apps mainstream. Have fun and
experiment. Try things out. Discover new ideas of what might be possible
and unique selling points of decentralization.

I would love volunteers to help. Those who've spoken up already and anyone
else interested - let's get together on a planning call. Please add your
name in the doc (http://piratepad.nl/rdc ) and let me know what times you
can do by adding +1 / -1.

Looking forward to making this happen!

Ira

P.S. I'm going to CCC this year, will be there Thurs pm - Mon, who else is
going to be around?

I also thought of doing such a conference in Berlin. Glad to help!

Blockchains, P2P and Mesh-networks, some 3D-printing...

Sounds like there's a lot of Berlin enthusiasm :)

Jos, Filipe, Janislav: can you guys make a planning call? Tomorrow morning,
Tuesday eve or next weekend? http://piratepad.nl/rdc

Tuesday evening would work for me. I added some notes to the piratepad. Think
you should go for London.

For reference - I'm organizing a ~200 ppl conference pretty much on my own.
Last year we had ~60 people per day for a week (peak 80-90 in the weekend). I
do have this as full-time job but I've got other duties too. What I'm saying
is - if you consciously keep it simple, it doesn't have to be that much work.
And I'm saying I can throw in some experience and can give practical
tips/help.

Budget-wise, I spend well under 1K but we had a free location. Mostly-free
drinks and some pizza (we asked ppl for some donation). I would strongly
suggest to ask a 5 pound/euro entree, that should cover costs if you keep it
basic and find a free location (university perhaps, or a community space or
hacker space).

I'll leave other thoughts to the side now but I can share my todo from the
event last and this year ;-)
